Changing the Frequency of repeater VXR-5000

I doubt anyone will need to read this post but I had to write it.

We are swapping repeaters between sites and therefore want to swap the frequencies those repeaters use.

One of them is an ancient Vertex VXR-5000. It still works fine despite being I-don’t-know-how-old-it-is. Most of the repeater control can be done using DTMF commands, originally using a connect telephone line, but now using the keypad on your FM radio. It has a RI-310 Vertex Repeater & Linking Controller. The manual however is Incorrect on page 98. It explicitly states that the trailing zeros are not necessary when entering S-Cmd 91. In some cases it may work but in our case we were trying to change to 147.760 and when typing in 14776 we never received any confirmation from the repeater. After a day of wrestling I got the crazy idea of entering the full frequency, including the trailing zero, and voila, the repeater responded as expected and allowed us to change the frequencies.

I hope this helps you, before you start pulling your hair out, rather than after.
